International Overdose Awareness Day (08/31)

Opioid Awareness Events and Vigils in Fairfield County - August/September 2019

Have you or someone you know lost someone due to a drug or alcohol overdose? Join one of the upcoming community remembrance events (below) to honor the memories of those who have been lost.

Bridgeport: "Bridgeport…Let’s Talk: Community Conversations Concerning the Opioid Crisis" will be held on Friday, August 30th from 9:30 am–12pm at Margaret Morton Government Center, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport. The day will include stories from the community, both those who have lost family members and people in recovery.

Fairfield: Candlelight Vigil hosted by Fairfield CARES Community Coalition & the Fairfield Health Department on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 7pm on the Sherman Town Green.

New Canaan: 3rd Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil: Come and enjoy live music, post a tribute, learn about resources. Listen to local speakers share lived experiences. Honor those who have struggled during the candlelight vigil conducted by faith leaders. Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 7pm-8:15pm at New Canaan Pop Up Park on 91 Elm St, New Canaan.

Ways to show your support include wearing a silver badge, purple wristband and/or a purple lanyard, all of which are symbols of awareness of overdose and its effects. Wearing these can signify the loss of someone cherished or demonstrate support for ongoing grief. This can send a message that every person’s life is valuable and that stigmatizing people who use substances needs to stop.
